The foundry board

CAMBRIDGE’S INCLUSTIVE HUB FOR CREATIVE EXPLORATION

The Foundry is a self-sustaining center of creativity and collaboration in the Kendall Square neighborhood offering the Cambridge community opportunities in science, technology, engineering, arts, and math.

At 50,000 square feet with a 4,000 square foot exterior, The Foundry provides space and programs for the arts (visual and performing), crafts, technology, entrepreneurship, workforce education, and community activities.

The Foundry helps facilitate access for residents, especially underrepresented communities, to Kendall Square's dynamic working and learning environment.

Because most institutions develop their makerspaces as workshops where people independently make prototypes. Experience has shown that a successful innovative makerspace is a community center that welcomes and empowers the broadest range of people to support each other in safety and creativity.

Therefore, I joined the Board of the Foundry and now chair the Programming and Community Outreach Committee:

  • To support the Foundry staff.

  • To develop and spread the concept that a makerspace is a community center that should, first and foremost, empower people to work together safely to create new ideas and skills toward innovation and value.

  • To position the Foundry as a world-class leader in public community-driven STEAM development.

  • To provide long-range design guidance for a wide range of novel, impactful marketing plans, events, and initiatives to unite people to support and mentor one another.

  • To advise on developing mind/body safety training and philosophies that guide the Foundry operations and initiatives.

  • To support the development of the Foundry identity through strategies that achieve a unique presence in the world of makerspaces.

  • (And as a Cambridge resident and parent), assist the Foundry in becoming THE fun, the creative STEAM destination for families.
